Time to relax for a bit after an extraordinary and exciting end to the Co-operative Netball Superleague season. For me the game of the season has to have been Mavericks thrilling comeback against Loughborough Lightning in the play-off semi-final. It was heart-rending to see Lightning miss out after building a nine-goal lead with 8 minutes to play in the final quarter, I must admit to thinking it was game over and was already mulling over my match report. Just goes to show how a determined and well-drilled side can upset the odds and Mavericks were simply awesome in taking the game to extra-time. Their gutsy attitude meant the result in the final against Team Bath was in the balance right until the end. Unbeaten throughout the season the best team won in the end and congratulations to Team Bath. But it's not just the Champions who will be the winners as we've gotthe Co-operative Netball Superleague Awards coming up. It's time for the girls to shrug off the kit and get in their glad rags for the end of season shindig. Who do you think will be the Kukri Player of Year? There's a definite international feel to the short list and what a quality field; Team Bath's Pamela Cookey, Loughborough Lightning's Jade Clarke and Jo Harten, Mavericks' Naida Hutchinson and Brunel Hurricanes' Sonia Mkoloma.
We all know how important it is to have a player you can rely on and the Player's Player of the Year will be a good one to watch and I can't wait to find out who will win The Playface Rookie of the Year, although I know who I'd pick.
The Coach of the Year, Umpire of the Year, The Chairman's Award, The Co-operative Community Award are just some of the others we'll be watching and we're really really REALLY proud to be sponsoring what we think is THE award of the night - the one that really counts for players and fans alike The Netball Pod Volunteer of the Year Award.
Can't wait to get to Birmingham and am going to Twitter all the way through the gig so if you can't be there follow thenetballpod on Twitter and I'll let you know what's happening as we go along - good for you chaps over in the ANZ . Tell me what you want to know and I'll get the goods and Twitter them out for you, email us at - I'll even give you a shout out. Gotta go I have to find my magic knickers. see you Friday.
